Missions at Wildwood
Wildwood in the World
Wildwood is dedicated
to shining as light in our homes, community, and in the world.
To reach the world for Christ, Wildwood has committed to several
international outreach opportunities and supports many missionaries
around the world. The links to the left will give you a taste of
what we've been up to over the past years in Mexico, Latvia, and
an area in the Muslim world. You should also check out who our missionaries
are and what they are doing these days and even consider adopting
one of them!
World
Outreach Team
The Great Commission – Christ’s marching orders to the Church as He
was returning to His place of glory at the right hand of the Father.
“ .. and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth (Acts
1:8).” “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations (Mt.
28:19).” The elders have charged the World Outreach Team with
helping to identify and fulfill Christ’s roll for Wildwood Community
Church in helping to fulfill the Great Commission in “Judea and
Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (ie, outside of
Norman). As you can see from pages within, Wildwood Community Church
is very active in World Outreach, as reflected by the significant
number of people involved in stateside ministry and international
World Outreach. But you might ask: what principles guide the
activities of the World Outreach Team, and how can I get involved?
The goal of the World Outreach Team is to “glorify Christ by
engaging every person in and mobilizing select people to world
outreach and thus help fulfill the Great Commission.” We seek to
engage every person in World Outreach by praying for our
missionaries, both in church and in small groups, and by
strategically investing church resources towards World Outreach. We
seek to mobilize select people to World Outreach by enabling our
members to go on short term World Outreach trips and by sending long
term vocational missionaries, and by providing educational
opportunities for people to learn more about World Outreach and thus
be mobilized for further involvement. We also seek to welcome those
internationals that God brings into our midst (e.g., international
students enrolled at OU).
As you can see, we structure our World Outreach efforts around five
areas: (1) Going, (2) Sending, (3) Praying, (4) Mobilizing and (5)
Welcoming. As a team and through consultation with the elders we
seek the Lord’s leading on what we should be doing in each of these
five areas. And, in an effort to strategically invest our time,
talents and treasure, we have prayerfully chosen three of our
international ministries as focus areas for expanding our support
and participation: (1) Mexico, (2) Latvia and (3) Another region in
the Muslim world, as described further in other pages. We are also prayerfully
considering if the Lord would have us add a fourth area in Asia.
It is exciting for us to see the priority that the elders place on
outreach, to Norman, to OU and to the World. And it is also exciting
to see God mobilizing a multitude of individuals to participate in
World Outreach, through prayer, financial giving, logistical and
emotional support, welcoming, and going. If you would like to find
out how to get involved in any of these exciting World Outreach
activities, please contact Frank Nees
fjnees@aol.com .
Please join us in praying that the nations will come to know our
risen Savior, that the name of Christ will be glorified, and that,
as a body of believers, we will be good stewards of the
opportunities Christ has given us to help fulfill the Great
Commission.
