Equipping U. at Wildwood!

Equipping U. exists to equip (through short modular courses) Wildwood members, attendees, and the extended Norman community to take the next step in their spiritual life and leadership development. The ultimate objective of Equipping U is to outfit folks to more effectively shine as L.I.G.H.T. in their home, their community, and the world.

Fast Facts Concerning Equipping U:

What is it? A venue to offer training to Wildwood members and the Norman community at large on a variety of topics.

Who is it for? Anyone. There is a range of courses offered from equipping in life and ministry skills to theology and leadership development. See the full list of courses at the end of this document.

When is it offered? Tuesday nights, 6:30-8:30 pm. Classes will begin Sept. 15, 2009.  Classes range from 4-8 weeks long.  See individual course descriptions for more info.

What about my kids? There is free childcare provided, though registration is necessary. You can sign up by replying by email to beckyclark@wildwoodchurch.org or by signing up on Sunday morning in the Gathering Hall.

Cost? Some courses are free, however, there may be material costs in other courses.

Course List – Fall 2009

Starting Point

Instructors: Wayne Russell and Mike Hargis

Cost: Free

Length: 4 weeks

Course Description:  Are you new and wanting to know more information about the church? Have you been attending Wildwood for a while and have interest in becoming a member? If so, then Starting Point is for you! Join Elders Wayne Russell and Mike Hargis for an enjoyable four week journey through Wildwood’s history, values, beliefs, and ministries as you seek to find your place to worship, connect, and serve here at Wildwood!

Financial Peace University

Instructors: Tim and Ann Riley

Cost:  $95 per couple/individual (includes required FPU                resource packet. Scholarship assistance is available if             needed)

Length:  8 weeks

Course Description:  Would you love to get out of debt?  Do you desire to be a better steward of the financial resources God has entrusted to you?  If so, then consider enrolling in (national radio host and best selling author) Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University course, facilitated at Wildwood by Tim and Ann Riley.   FPU covers financial principles from debt reduction to budgeting to insurance, and everything in between.  The FPU program will be split into two eight week parts – one for the fall Equipping U session and another for the winter/spring Equipping U session. 

The Christian Life Hangs in the Balance

Instructor: Pastor Mark Robinson

Cost:  Free

Length:  6 weeks

Course Description:  As a Christian, you may have come to realize that on several issues, the Bible declares two truths that (at first glance) seem contradictory.  Things like man’s choice vs. God’s choice, grace vs. works, personal responsibility vs. helping those in need, traditional vs. contemporary, having convictions vs. legalism, and our will be done vs. Thy will be done in prayer.  In this short 6 week seminar, we will be dialoguing together on how these dichotomies relate and what God would have us do in response to our understanding of these issues.

Answering the Tough Ones

Instructor: Mark Burget (Search Ministries)

Cost:  $20 (includes text book, work book with illustrations                 and charts, and 6 CDs)

Length:  6 weeks

Course Description: Have you ever been asked a tough question about Christianity or religion that you weren’t sure how to answer?  Have you ever asked yourself a tough question that you weren’t sure how to answer?  Questions such as: “Are miracles possible?”  “What is the evidence for the Resurrection?”  “Why should we believe the Bible; it was written by men after all; is it reliable?”  “If God is good, why is there so much pain and evil in the world?”  “How many valid ways are there to reach God?  One? Seven?  All ways”  “What about those who haven’t heard?”  “How good do we have to be to go to heaven?”  These questions and more will be discussed and analyzed at Equipping U, and you will be trained on how to give a Biblical, I Peter 3:15 response “with gentleness and respect” to the toughest questions out there.

Strengthening Your Marriage

Instructor: Pastor John Abernethy

Cost: $25 (includes participant’s manual and the book 12               Hours to a Great Marriage)

Length: 6 weeks

Course Description:  When it comes to loving the most important people in our lives, no one can ever learn too much.  Much of what is difficult in loving relationships has much to do with never having learned the skills and principles associated with successful relationships.  Couples at every stage of marriage are encouraged to join us as we allow God to teach us specific marriage skills that will change our marriages!  Here are some of the areas we’ll cover:  How do we talk without fighting?  What are communication danger signs?  How can we have more fun?  What are expectations?  How can we solve problems so they don’t come back to bite us?  How can we stay friends?Why do we argue over the little things?  What about a great sexual relationship?  How can we forgive each other?  Can we really be committed for the long haul?  How can we handle stress as a team?  What about personality difference, love styles and contentment?  For more info –  www.prepinc.com
