Angel Tree Ministry

Wildwood and Angel Tree Ministry

Prison Fellowship is an organization committed to fellowshipping with Jesus, visiting the prisoners and welcoming their children. Angel Tree is Prison Fellowship’s ministry to the children and families of prisoners. The mission statement is provided below:

Prison Fellowship Mission
To exhort, equip, and assist the Church in its ministry to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families and in its promotion of justice in the criminal justice system.

Prison Fellowship (PF) has gained much experience in reaching the children of prisoners – the often forgotten victims of crime. PF has established three primary programs to help churches reach their children: Angel Tree Christmas, Angel Tree Camping, and Angel Tree Mentoring.

- Angel Tree Christmas has provided gifts to millions of prisoners’ children since 1982.
- At Wildwood we provided Christmas gifts to over 90 children in 2005.
- Angel Tree Camping is God using a campfire to light a heart.
- Wildwood sponsored 4 children of inmates to attend a Christian summer camp in 2006.
- Angel Tree Mentoring focuses on the year-round needs of a very special group of children – prisoners’ kids.
- Wildwood is beginning a mentoring program involving children living in Norman.

Specific ways to get involved – We need:

- People willing to shop, type letters or lists, make phone calls, deliver gifts, provide transportation, drive to Spencer, OK, organize supplies, research/suggest evangelistic pamphlets or small books to provide with gifts, give money to help with needs.
- The emphasis is on relationship and discipleship, but Christmas gifts, Easter baskets, and school supplies give us opportunities to visit and talk with our Angel Tree families.

The easiest method for me is to use an e-mail list of potential volunteers. When a need comes up, I send out a message by e-mail and whoever is able to help at that time can e-mail me back. There are opportunities all through the year, many come up unexpectedly.

This year I would like to have some specific volunteers that would like to:

- Call an Angel Tree Caregiver (grandparent, parent, aunt/uncle) once a month to touch base, find out how we can pray for them or if they have needs we can help with, let them know of any events at Wildwood, listen.
- Committing to spend time regularly with a child – once a month, twice a month or once a week for a year.
